We received the following 4 awards! Postsecondary Success: Silver Award Graduation: Cooper Award Prepared for Postsecondary: Copper Award Commissioner's Award with Honors Postsecondary Success deals with students who graduate from MHS and meet one of the four following outcomes within two years of high school graduation. Students can earn an Industry Recognized Certification while in high school, earned a postsecondary certificate, earned a postsecondary degree, or are still enrolled in postsecondary in both the first and second year following high school graduation. Prepared for Postsecondary: recognized annually for the percent of all students, across all grade levels, scoring at levels 3 and 4 on Kansas state assessments in math, English language arts, and science. Graduation: Based on the 4-year graduation cohort. State Average- 89.9% Commissioner's Award with Honors: Recognizes districts that outperform their predicted postsecondary effectiveness rate above 1-1.99 standard deviation. MES: Good Morning Everyone, I wanted to send you information pertaining to Monday (2/15) and Tuesday (2/16) at Marion Elementary School. Monday will still be Parent-Teacher Conferences via zoom throughout the day. Teachers will still have those conferences with all parents that are already scheduled. If P/T Conferences need to meet in person, teachers will communicate with those parents about setting up new times in the upcoming week ahead. We will not have on-site school, rather we will have "remote" learning on Tuesday due to the extreme wind chills and possible snow forecasted on Monday and Tuesday. Parents, your child's teacher will be sending information regarding what work they will have that day. If you do not have technology for your child to use, do not worry, we are expecting the students as much as they can do that day. MMS Celebration!! Congratulations to the MMS 7-8 Band members who were selected to be represented in the Kansas Music Educators Association South Central District Middle School Honor Band. The Honor Band is composed of 7th and 8th Grade band students from all over the South-Central Kansas area. Students were nominated by their directors. Based on these nominations, students were selected for the group. Elementary Parents we have received information (COVID-19) that will affect several students and staff. If the quarantine affects your student you will receive an email as well as a call today from KDHE. Educational materials will be able to be picked up at the elementary tomorrow to allow your child to transition to remote learning for this week. There will be a sports shuttle starting Monday, August 17th for Florence students needing it to and from practice. Shuttle will leave Florence gym parking lot at 3:40pm. Students will get picked up from practice at 5:45pm and return to Florence around 6:00pm. Masks will be required for all riders.

The USD 408 Board of Education approved the new start date of Wednesday, September 9th for the 2020-2021 USD 408 school year. Also approved was the addition of 10 minutes at the beginning of the day at each building. All buildings will start at 8:05 a.m. More details and information will be given out about the upcoming year as plans take shape. Just as a reminder, enrollment information can be picked up on Tuesday, August 4th from 7:30 a.m. to 1 p.m at the Sports Aquatic Center with enrollment day happening Tuesday, August 11th. If you are unable to make it to the SAC on the 11th please contact the school to make an appointment time to drop off your packet. Also, we will have a 5:30 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. time frame available for packet drop off at the SAC.
Enrollment will be a little different this year. We are asking that on August the 4th, from 7:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., that you come to the SAC and we will have a packet put together for all of your children. We ask that you take this home and return it to the SAC on August 11th, from 8:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. We would ask you pay your fees on the 11th when you return your paperwork for your children. Staff will be available on the 11th to help MMS and MHS students with their schedule.
Earlier this week Governor Kelly announced she is delaying the start of school until after Labor Day. The executive order will be out on Monday. Once we have more information we will pass it on to our USD 408 family.

Hi Parents - If your financial situation has changed during this crisis and you did not qualify earlier, you should apply for free/reduced benefits ASAP. You can receive some additional help from the State and benefits carryover for the first 30 days of the 20-21 school year if you don't fill out an application at enrollment. After Kansas FCCLA canceled their state meeting, the competitive events were moved to a virtual format. In late March, Anna Zurcher (11) and Amy Gayle (10) presented their STAR Event to judges via Zoom conferencing. The students competed in the National Programs in Action event presenting their program MES Family Game Night. After waiting nearly a month for results, we are pleased to share that Anna and Amy scored GOLD and placed 2nd in state qualifying for Nationals. FCCLA announced that the National meeting scheduled for early July would also be virtual. Congratulations to Anna, Amy, and Ms. Witty! You make us proud!

The awards recognize Kansas schools that are making a notable difference in student achievement despite facing significant challenges in their school population. Since its inception in 2002, more than 1,700 awards have been presented to schools across the state. Certificates of Merit were presented to schools by Kansas State Board of Education members. The Challenge Award recognizes schools for outstanding achievement and uncommon accomplishments based on Kansas assessment results in math and reading, graduation rates, chronic absenteeism rates and the socio-economic status of those taking the test. Calling all area farmers. The Marion/Florence High School Agriculture Education program is applying for a $15,000 grant to support a proposed greenhouse project for the school. The greenhouse would be used in the Ag Education program and would also help start plants for the local community garden. Last week FCCLA held their officer elections and STAR events competitions. MHS sent 5 students as voting delegates and competitors, Amy Gayle, Anna Zurchur, Emma Box, Emily Hake, and Emma Soyez. Amy and Anna competed in the National Programs in Action STAR Event. They received a Gold ranking qualifying for State FCCLA in April. Congratulations to all ladies of MHS!!
