Pen & Ink
Pen and ink are basic drawing tools,  it takes a bit of practice to achieve good results. When you draw a line, try to make sure that your arm and hand flow smoothly and lightly over the page. Hatching or cross-hatching are systems of lines drawn over one another in various directions.
This is a very popular means of bringing depth and grey tones into your drawing. This is also a way to get away from lines that simply describe contours or shapes.
*Exploratory Assignment- In sketchbook do a series of small drawings( at least 3) 4"x4" of subject matter of your choice; try experimenting with thin and thick lines, cross-hatching, line shading, etc.
