Advanced Art 3 - 2007

Sketchbook-
I will give selected Sketchbook assignment which tie into certain events, exhibits or art/photo issues.
It is your responsibility to check the web page section for your particular class early each week and complete
assigned questions and sketchbook activities outlined for each week. These assignments are due each Monday/Tuesday at the start of your hour and should be completed outside of class time (homework!)

Course Outline

The Advanced Art program is based on mini- workshops and large projects; these projects have some guidelines, but subject matter is usually up to the student. Students expand upon their knowledge gained in the Foundations course, continuing art techniques or ideas which were introduced in there. Students are also exposed to Art History through videos, slides, periodicals, internet searches, lectures and reports. In addition to projects; students will be given daily sketchbook assignments, which will be turned in each Friday.

- Pen and Ink and Scratchboard - 1st Project
- Experiments with Colored Pencils
  Students will discover the techniques of colored pencils through hands-on workshops. After introduction and individual experimentation, students will complete a composition utilizing knowledge gained from workshop. 2 weeks. Size 12" x 18".
- Silkscreen
  Students will discover the techniques of silkscreen through hands-on workshops. After introduction and individual experimentation, students will complete a composition utilizing knowledge gained from workshop. Can be printed on cloth or paper. 2 weeks. Size 12" x 18
- Collage, Copy Art & Alternative Art
  Students will be introduced to the techniques of collage, copy art and alternative materials in this unit. After introduction and individual experimentation, students will complete a composition utilizing knowledge gained from workshop. 3 weeks. Size 12" x 18".
- Advertising and Design
  Students will work as professionals on specific problems. Product design, advertising, ad display, product production, product packaging problems and sales will be some of the areas explored. Actual products will be produced. Students will use computers for various parts or all of their products. 3 weeks.
- Individual/ Final Project
  Students will complete a major composition as a final project. Subject matter, medium (2-D only) & size is up to the students. Must be completed by the end of the 1st Semester.
  
  Students will learn how to matt artwork using matt boards, cutters and matt tools. Each student will matt their artwork which will be in their portfolios ( portfolios will be provided for all advanced art students).

Grades-Your grades will be based on craftsmanship, desire for improvement, understanding of the assignment/project, and personal effort. Each assignment will graded on an individual basis
and your demonstration of improvement throughout the semester will have a major impact on your grade. There are three areas which grades will be taken-

Daily Work- 20% Includes daily assignments, and participation grade.
                            If you are absent, you need to makeup all the time you missed
Sketchbook- 20% Includes weekly sketchbook assignments, plus any assigned
                           work which is expected to be completed outside of the class.
Projects- 60%     Includes all major projects.

Expectations-

Be prepared and on time
Quietly listen while instruction is given
Be respectful to others and their art work
Try to be neat and careful of your own work
Hand in all projects
Clean up after yourself
Be responsible for your own supplies and return any you may have borrowed

My expectations of you are very straight forward, I expect you to demonstrate the best of your abilities throughout the Semester. I expect you to complete all daily work, homework and projects.
I do not give extra credit work, so it is important to keep your grade up you need to complete all assignments
It is very important in an Advanced class to keep the lines of communication open, if you do not understand an area or need help or would like to know about your progress/grade - please ask.

Grading Scale-	Late Work Policy-
100% - 93.5% = A 93.4% - 85.5% =B 85.4% - 74.5% = C 74.4% - 67.5% = D 67.4% - 0.0% = F	1. All assignments must be completed on time! 2. Students who have not completed the required assignment will receive a grade of a "zero". 3. The student will have until the following school day to complete the assignment and raise their grade from a "zero" to an "F", maximum 67%. 4. Students having difficulty with the assignments must contact the teacher prior to class time.
